Troubleshooting
A device looks out of sync
Nothing is lost. Every device keeps a full copy of your notes on its own disk, Cloud Sync or not. Close and reopen the app to force it to reconnect.
Restoring from a backup
On a Mac, you can put back a backup you made as described in Where your notes live.
- Right-click any empty space around your notes.
- Choose Restore from Backup….
- Choose your backup file.
- Read the warning, then choose Restore.
Mimir checks the backup before it changes anything. Your notes from before the restore stay in a copy next to the database.
Restoring a backup isn’t available on iPhone and iPad.
With Cloud Sync on
A restore replaces your notes on every device, and your eight words stay the same. Each of your other devices takes in the restored notes the next time it connects to Cloud Sync, and shows a message when it does.
Anything written after the backup is lost on every device. That includes notes written on a device that was offline at the time.
If Mimir doesn’t open
Without Cloud Sync, you can put a backup back by hand:
- Open the folder described in Where your notes live.
- Delete
mimir.db-walandmimir.db-shm, if they’re there. They belong to the current database and can damage the backup you put in its place. - Replace
mimir.dbwith your backup copy. Rename the copy tomimir.dbif it has a different name. - Open Mimir.
With Cloud Sync on, don’t put a backup back by hand. Mimir reconnects as it opens and brings back every change made since the backup. Email support@justmimir.com instead.
After a crash
If Mimir crashed or hit an unexpected error, it shows a message the next time it opens, with a few choices: view what was logged, report it by email, or (on desktop) save a diagnostic bundle to attach. The error log never contains your note text — only what kind of error it was, the app version, and which actions you’d made just before it (also without their text).
Reporting a problem
Report a bug, or anything Mimir did that you didn’t expect, at bugs.justmimir.com. If a crash prompted you, email support@justmimir.com instead and attach the diagnostic bundle it offered — it never contains your notes.
