title: "Search & find"
---

Two separate tools cover two separate questions: which page has what
you're looking for, and where on this page it is.

## Searching everything

To open the search palette, click the spark button in the bottom-left
corner, or press **Cmd/Ctrl-P**. On iPhone and iPad, pull down past the top
of the feed, or tap the search button in the keyboard toolbar. Type to
search every page and note you ever wrote.

Results rank a close text match above a popular page, and a popular page
above an old one. An exact or near match to your words always outranks
everything else.

A query of two or more words matches each word on its own, anywhere in
the text and in any order. `mimir tags` and `tags mimir` both find a
page titled "On Tags in Mimir."

A word of five or more letters still matches on one typo: one wrong,
missing, or extra letter. Spell shorter words exactly.

To close the palette from the keyboard, press **Escape**. You can also press
**Backspace** when the search field is empty. Holding **Backspace** to clear
your text stops at the empty field and doesn't close the palette.

## Search operators

Type any of these into the search palette, combined with ordinary search
words or with each other.

| Operator | Finds |
| --- | --- |
| `@today` | Everything from today. |
| `@yesterday` | Everything from yesterday. |
| `@date(2026-07-01)` | Everything from that day. |
| `@date(2026-07)` | Everything from that month. |
| `@date(2026)` | Everything from that year. |
| `@date(<2026-07-01)` | Everything before that day. |
| `@date(>2026-07-01)` | Everything after that day. |
| `@pages` | Page titles only, not the notes inside them. |
| `-word` | Excludes notes containing that word. |

`@pages meeting` searches page titles for "meeting." `@pages @date(2026)`
lists every page created in 2026.

## Finding text on a page

Press **Cmd/Ctrl-F** to open a find bar over the page you're looking at.
Type to highlight every match on that page. Press **Escape** to close it.

This only searches the page in front of you. It doesn't open on the
journal, because the journal shows several days at once and a match
wouldn't tell you which day it came from. In the journal, use the
[search palette](#searching-everything) instead.
